I'm the youngest of seven kids from Galesburg, Illinois. My parents were both schoolteachers and my oldest brother is thirteen years older than me. I grew up watching my brother fly and caught the flying bug early in life. I earned money from paper routes and mowing lawns to pay for flight lessons and got my pilot's license in high school.
I went to Parks College at St. Louis University for Aeronautical Engineering. I joined the Illinois Air National Guard while in attending Parks, graduated cum laude, and landed a F- 16 slot in the Guard upon graduation. In 2010 I retired from the Guard after 23 years and continue to fly for United.
Like our clients, when I started at United, I had to figure out the PRAP. Early on I made plenty of mistakes and realized how much planning and discipline matter. During the bankruptcy period, I left United for a short time and worked as a retail stockbroker. Those early lessons and experience set the stage for the value I pass on to my clients.
When I met Alan shortly after he founded United Wealth Management in 2005, we saw how our backgrounds could serve the pilot community. I earned my Certificate in Financial Planning from Boston University and became a Certified Financial Planner™ professional.
As Advisor and COO, I handle firm operations and work with clients, particularly on retirement income planning. I focus on listening, understanding what a client needs, and offering both financial solutions and perspective. The problem solving keeps me engaged.
I live in Rochester, Illinois, with my wife, Julie. We've been married 30 years this November. Our daughter Grace works with us at the firm. Our sons, Jack and Luke, are both commercial pilots. Teaching my boys to fly and now mentoring Grace at the firm are among my proudest accomplishments. Julie holds everything together when I'm traveling or working.
I train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, bike, hike, and do videography. I serve as treasurer for our local flying club, the Flying 20s, where I taught my boys to fly and still instruct other members when time allows.
