United Airlines Pilots:
Your PRAP and Spending Accounts Are Being Targeted by Fraud
United Wealth Management | June 2026
If you’re a United Airlines pilot, your retirement and health accounts are actively being targeted by sophisticated scammers. The MEC Retirement & Insurance Committee has flagged a spike in fraud attempts aimed specifically at pilots’ PRAP, RHA, HRA, and FSA accounts — and many of these attempts are succeeding.
As financial advisors who specialize exclusively in United pilot financial planning, we want every pilot we work with to understand what’s happening and how to protect themselves.
What Accounts Are Being Targeted?
• PRAP — Your Pilot Retirement Account Plan (the 401k managed through Alight and held at Schwab)
• RHA — Your Retirement Health Account
• Active HRA — Your Health Reimbursement Account
• FSA — Flexible Spending Account
These accounts hold a significant portion of a United pilot’s net worth. They’re valuable targets.
How the Scams Work
Bad actors are impersonating Alight, United Airlines, and Schwab through text messages, emails, and phone calls. The fakes are good — sometimes indistinguishable from legitimate communications.
Common tactics:
• Texts and emails with fake links that lead to replicated FlyingTogether or Alight login pages. The pages look real. They’re not.
• Spam emails that appear to come from “United Airlines Benefits Resources” — but the sending address is a giveaway if you look closely.
• Phone calls requesting your login credentials or DUO verification code.
Important: Neither Schwab, Alight, nor United will ever call you asking for a verification code or login information. If that happens, hang up immediately and call back using a known, verified number.
What to Do (and Not Do)
• NEVER Never click links in texts or emails claiming to be from United or Alight. United will never text you a link to log in to FlyingTogether.
• NEVER Never Google “Alight,” “YBR,” or “FlyingTogether” to find contact information or log in. Bad actors have built fake websites that appear in search results.
• ALWAYS Always log in directly through verified entry points — type the address yourself or use bookmarks you’ve already confirmed.
• PUBLIC WI-FI: On public Wi-Fi (layover hotels, airports)? Use a reputable VPN before accessing any spending or retirement accounts.
• ENROLL: Enroll in text notifications for your accounts. An unexpected payment alert is your early warning system.
If You Think You’ve Been Compromised
Report it immediately. Don’t wait. Contact Alight, Schwab, and United directly through verified contact numbers — not numbers from any email or search result.
